About Padmai Ga-Tshal Choiling School
Padmai Ga-Tshal Choiling School was established in 2014 with a vision to provide quality and equitable education to children from remote and underprivileged communities of the Himalayan region.
It Began with 100 Children
Founded by Khenpo Karchoe Rinpoche, the school began with approximately 100 students and has grown into a vibrant educational community serving hundreds of students.
Our commitment goes beyond academic education. We provide students with a supportive environment where they can develop intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and ethically. Students from Nursery through Grade 12 learn in a child-centered environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, communication, and lifelong learning.
We also provide essential support including accommodation, nutritious meals, clothing, and healthcare, helping students focus on their education without the burden of basic living expenses.

A Full Learning Journey, Nursery to Grade 12
We believe that meaningful education develops not only academic knowledge but also curiosity, creativity, confidence, communication, collaboration, and responsible citizenship. Our Founder
Khenpo Karchoe Rinpoche
Founder, Padmai Ga-Tshal Choiling School
Khenpo Karchoe Rinpoche was born in 1968 into a family of farmers and herders in the remote Tsum Nubri Valley of Nepal. From an early age, he was introduced to spiritual study while continuing the traditional livelihood of his family.
In 1986, at the age of 19, he joined Namdroling Monastery in Southern India, where he received teachings and spiritual guidance from several renowned Buddhist masters. From 1989 to 1998, he undertook nine years of intensive study at the monastic debate school, focusing on Buddhist philosophy, sutras, tantras, and traditional sciences.
He subsequently engaged in periods of retreat, advanced study, teaching, and spiritual practice. Over the years, he has taught Buddhist philosophy, meditation, and Dharma at monasteries and Dharma centers in Nepal, India, Taiwan, and elsewhere.
Beyond his spiritual work, Khenpo Karchoe Rinpoche has dedicated much of his life to serving communities in the Himalayan region, particularly those with limited access to education and essential services.
A Vision for Education
Recognizing the educational challenges faced by children in remote Himalayan communities, Khenpo Karchoe Rinpoche established Padmai Ga-Tshal Choiling Secondary School in Kathmandu in 2014.
His vision was simple yet profound: to make quality education accessible to children who might otherwise have limited opportunities to receive it.
Through the school, students receive education alongside accommodation, food, clothing, healthcare support, and opportunities for holistic development. He also encourages students to pursue higher education and eventually return to their communities to serve others, particularly in areas such as education and healthcare.
